What is coronavirus?

Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that can cause respiratory illness in humans. The common cold is an example of a coronavirus. It’s important to remember that viruses cannot be treated with antibiotics. COVID-19 is the name of the new strain of coronavirus that began in Wuhan, China.

What are the symptoms of the infection?

In 80% of patients, COVID-19 causes only mild cold symptoms. Elderly patients and those with underlying medical conditions may be more vulnerable to complications. Currently, patients with confirmed infection reported these symptoms:

  • Fever

  • Cough

  • Difficulty breathing

What should I do if I believe I might be infected?

We ask that anyone who suspects they may have COVID-19 to please call us to discuss their symptoms. Your healthcare provider will provide further direction, however, if you are experiencing a medical emergency, pease call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

How can I try and avoid getting the virus?

Currently, no vaccine exists to prevent COVID-19. The following suggestions can prevent the spread of the virus:

  • Clean your hands often with soap and water or hand sanitizer (60% alcohol), especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, touching common surfaces and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • If you are sick, stay home. Wear a face-mask when around other people and cover your coughs and sneezes, plus wash your hands before touching anything.

  • Clean and disinfect regularly, any objects or services you have come in contact with.
