What is coronavirus?
Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that can cause respiratory illness in humans. The common cold is an example of a coronavirus. It’s important to remember that viruses cannot be treated with antibiotics. COVID-19 is the name of the new strain of coronavirus that began in Wuhan, China.
What are the symptoms of the infection?
In 80% of patients, COVID-19 causes only mild cold symptoms. Elderly patients and those with underlying medical conditions may be more vulnerable to complications. Currently, patients with confirmed infection reported these symptoms:
Fever
Cough
Difficulty breathing
What should I do if I believe I might be infected?
We ask that anyone who suspects they may have COVID-19 to please call us to discuss their symptoms. Your healthcare provider will provide further direction, however, if you are experiencing a medical emergency, pease call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
How can I try and avoid getting the virus?
Currently, no vaccine exists to prevent COVID-19. The following suggestions can prevent the spread of the virus:
Clean your hands often with soap and water or hand sanitizer (60% alcohol), especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, touching common surfaces and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
If you are sick, stay home. Wear a face-mask when around other people and cover your coughs and sneezes, plus wash your hands before touching anything.
Clean and disinfect regularly, any objects or services you have come in contact with.
